Castings within a model agency

The reason a lot of modeling agencies hold open castings is to attract new faces which might be interesting for them to represent. Clients approach a modeling agency seeking a certain look, and the more different looks an agency offers, the more likely it is they will receive bookings.

Of course some model agencies and talent agencies specialize in a certain type of model or actor/ actress, and don’t cater for a wide range at all. Each company has the option of specialising, or catering for a wide demographic. If the agency you approach is specializing in a particular type of model or talent, be sure you are also specialized in that area before approaching them for casting or representation.

It is important to be prepared for any casting application; some agencies will request certain things, or have an application procedure in place. Always respectfully follow the procedures to make it easy for the agency to assess you and potentially work with you. Incorrectly submitted applications are often deleted, due to the volume of applications for casting.

If an agency is interested in getting to know you and considering you for representation, they may contact you promptly. Be prepared to attend a meeting, or provide an on camera walk/ go see/ audition. Professional agencies rarely waste time when they find someone interesting whose talent is apparent.

Castings can be a great way to become noticed, but keep in mind there are thousands of other models and performers competing for that attention. You need to find a way to make yourself memorable, without being annoying or gimmicky. The easiest way to do that is to just be yourself, let your natural energy shine. Someone with presence doesn’t need to force things. That natural presence will carry you. Let that personality shine! 🙂  Some will ignore it, some may not be interested in getting to know you as a person. Keep being authentically you. It matters.
